What will your budget be worth in euros?

The general rule of thumb for estate agents when quoting house prices for Crete properties in either pounds only or pounds and euros is to use a rate of 1.45 euros to the pound.

The following chart shows how the exchange rate has changed over time and gives you an idea of what your budget is actually worth when converted into euros at today's rate. The rate you get from your bank will probably be slightly lower than the foreign exchange rate shown here, which relates to real-time FX trading rates. As you can see from the table, over a seven week period from the 3rd of August to the 21st September, the value of your euro budget has changed from €148,630 to €142,690 - a difference of almost €6,000 for every £100,000 of your budget! This could have paid a lot of fees and taxes. If at all possible, time your transfer when it suits you, not the vendor.
